A reflection on the sermon preached on Sunday, November 3, 2013
by Kathy Y.
Deborah’s sermons are stimulating and inspiring. I appreciate that she draws from Christian Tradition – meaning the Bible readings for the Sunday are the focus of her sermon. This week the Gospel was God reaching out to Zaccheas. Luke 19:1-10
She began with a personal experience at Theology on Tap. In the pub they discussed the will of God.
Deborah recalled that when she was a child she thought God had a plan, a will for all of us.
Insight But in this scripture, the Greek word is voluntus as in ” God is not willing that any should perish.” We choose to reach for God. The will of God is there for us if we choose , if we voluntarily look for it. People used to say to each other, ‘I’ll be there D.V.’ Deo Volunte.
God tries to reach out to each of us.
Our call to ministry is to listen for the will of God and through prayer to act on that will as we discern it.
