Creator God, loving God we give thanks for the aboriginal people of this land. We pray that the wisdom of their culture may infuse all of Canadian society, that we may become a more caring and trusting nation, fostering a spirit of sharing and of community. We pray that as we move forward we can learn from the lessons of the past, particularly the lessons of the sinful policy of assimilation that stood behind the residential schools. We pray that we may never again demean and abuse a people in our midst. We pray that the children and grandchildren and great grandchildren of survivors of the residential schools will find healing and hope, honouring their elders, their ancient traditions and values. We pray that all who share and care for this land may seek reconciliation and a renewed community of purpose.

We pray to the one God who made us all and blesses us all.

The Ven. Jim Boyles served as General Secretary of the Anglican Church of Canada from 1993 to 2005.
